INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON OIL PALM BIOMASS (ICOPB) 2008
Palm Oil, which generates income for the industry, is only 10% component of the oil palm. The oil palm tree produces fibrous biomass in the forms of trunks, fronds, and empty fruit bunches. An oil palm plantation produces about 55 tones per hectare per year of dry matter as compared to 5.5 tones of palm oil and palm kernel oil.
Thus 90 % of the oil palm is relatively unexploited. If this potential is fully exploited, the contribution of the palm industry would be increased many fold.
